Why Are We Doing This?
We want our homes to meet residents’ needs now and in the future.
Up-to-date information helps us plan maintenance, target investment, and identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency.
What Does the Survey Involve?
An experienced surveyor working for SHCHA will visually inspect the property.
They will look at internal and external elements such as windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, heating, insulation and the general condition of the building.
They may take photographs of relevant features for property management and survey records.
Most surveys should take around 90 minutes.
What Should Residents Expect?
If your home is selected, we will contact you in advance to arrange a convenient appointment.
The surveyor will:
- View all rooms and relevant areas of the property.
- Record information about the condition of the home.
- Take photographs.
- Be happy to answer any questions about the survey process.
No special preparation is needed; we would be grateful if you could ensure clear access to rooms, heating equipment, loft hatches and external doors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you carrying out these surveys?
They help us plan future maintenance, improvements and investment, including ways to make homes more energy efficient and comfortable.
Why has my home been chosen?
We are surveying homes as part of a planned programme. Not every property will be surveyed at the same time.
How long will the visit take?
Most surveys take around 90 minutes.
Will the surveyor need to see every room?
Yes, where possible. This helps the surveyor build a complete and accurate picture of the home’s condition.
Will photographs be taken?
The surveyor may photograph building elements such as windows, heating systems or external walls to support survey records.
Do I need to do anything before the visit?
No special preparation is needed, although clear access to key areas is helpful.
Is this connected to repairs I have already reported?
No. The survey does not replace our repairs service, so please continue to report repairs in the usual way.
Will any repairs be carried out during the appointment?
No. The visit is an inspection only.
What if the appointment date is not convenient?
If the proposed appointment is not convenient, let us know and we will try to arrange another time.
How does this benefit residents?
Better information helps us make informed decisions about maintenance, improvements and investment.
This supports safe, comfortable, energy-efficient homes for current and future residents.
Thank You
Thank you for supporting this work.
